Airdrie captain Adam Frizzell says a Scottish Cup win at Dumbarton can finally get their season off and running – but they’ll need to be on top form. The Diamonds head to League One side Dumbarton on fourth-round duty on Saturday, hoping for a win that can send them on a run that could help them get out of relegation trouble in the Championship. With just one league win all season ahead of a trip to Livingston last night (Tuesday), Airdrie are rooted to the foot of the table, 13 points behind second-bottom Dunfermline, with a game in hand.Dumbarton don’t have their troubles to seek, as going into administration saw them deducted 15 points, leaving them six behind second-bottom Inverness, who were docked 15 points for the same reason in October.Midfielder Frizzell, who spent a spell at Dumbarton on loan from Kilmarnock in 2019-20, before joining the Sons permanently the following season, said: “We were talking about the Scottish Cup, because if we can get past Dumbarton – which is a notoriously difficult place to go – we could end up getting a really good fixture, and you’re essentially two games away from Hampden.“That would be a definite chance to get a bit of positivity about the place, and try to find that groove from somewhere, and help us in the league.“It could be a chance to kick-start things.“We know that if we can perform on any given day you can get a win, that’s why the cup is so interesting.”Frizzell reckons as the higher-league team Airdrie will go into the cup clash as favourites. He said: “We’ll go to Dumbarton, probably as the team that is expected to win.“Their position is obviously difficult with the reduction they got.“I know a lot of their players, they’re a well-drilled team that is very tough to beat.“
