Airdrie can end 2023 on a high by beating Queen's Park, says boss

Airdrie boss Rhys McCabe has urged his side to beat Queen’s Park and end the year on a real high.McCabe says the progress the Diamonds have made in 2023 is already extraordinary, earning promotion via the play-offs and holding their own in the Championship.But he wants to make sure they bag three points and leave themselves in an even better position, going into 2024.Airdrie are currently seventh in the second tier, four points behind Dunfermline in the play-off slots, and would have moved fifth had they beat Morton rather than drawing 0-0 with them on Saturday.McCabe wants to see Airdrie push on as high up the table as they can, but says what they have achieved in the calendar year has already been remarkable.He said: “We now have the focus of, can we finish the calendar year on a high with a positive result, and whether that makes you jump a few places or not is another question.“But in the bigger picture, the grand scheme of things, the calendar year, how far we’ve come and where we’re sitting just now, I’m not going to be too frustrated or disheartened.“Most weeks are the same, it’s always nip and tuck between five, six or seven teams, but I try not to get carried away with results and just focus on ourselves.“It’s easy to get side-tracked with the recent results, where we’ve lost three and on Saturday you don’t score, albeit we picked up a point.“But when you see the bigger picture and where we’ve come from, winning the play-offs last season and coming through it the hard way.“We’ve come into a new division with a young squad, losing certain individuals and trying to replace them, a couple of individuals who are injured and stuff, and it takes a wee bit of time.“For a lot of these boys it’s senior football that
