Rhys McCabe says Airdrie’s 1-0 win over Premiership side Dundee has given them a great chance to progress, but is focused on player recovery ahead of a testing week in the Viaplay Cup.The player-boss bagged his first goal of the season from the spot two minutes from time to earn his side six points from their opening two group matches. That came after goalkeeper Josh Rae saved Lyall Cameron’s penalty to deny Dundee. As Airdrie head into away games at Inverness on Tuesday and Bonnyrigg Rose on Saturday, the Championship newcomers are in pole position to qualify from Group E.But McCabe says they will continue to quietly go about their business, and see where that takes them.McCabe said: “It gives us a good chance to qualify from what is a strong group, but there have been all sorts of wacky results so far.“I’m not really looking too much into it.“There are loads of clubs who, at certain points of the season, have been back so long or haven’t been back long enough, but we can only control ourselves, quietly go about our business, keep putting the work in on the training pitch, and ultimately look forward to getting the right level of performance.“These [next two] are games we can win, but the win isn’t the most important thing for me now, it’s about recovery – how can I get the boys in a top condition.“There have been personnel changes and a quick turnaround, so it’s important that everyone’s ready, we recover properly, eat the right food, sleep well and stuff.“And we go into the game on Tuesday full of confidence.”McCabe felt both sides tried to play football as they slugged it out at New Broomfield. He said: “Both teams came to play good football, and got the ball down, and played a high quality game.”Follow Lanarkshire Live
