Airdrie boss: Beat Clyde or thumping Montrose win will count for nothing

Rhys McCabe has warned his Airdrie side that their thumping 4-0 win over Montrose will count for nothing if they don’t beat Clyde on Saturday.The Diamonds bagged their first win in six League One games with the resounding win, courtesy of a Lewis Jamieson hat-trick and Craig Watson’s header, moving them up to sixth in the table.They now head to second-bottom Clyde, who are on a run of 10 straight league defeats, which resulted in them sacking boss Danny Lennon on Monday evening, having placed him on paid authorised absence, with assistant Allan Moore in charge for their 2-1 defeat at Alloa.McCabe was delighted with the win over on-form Montrose, but says Airdrie must build on it.He said: “It’s great to get the win against a really good side, and make it as comfortable as it was, but it’s about building on this now, and gaining momentum.“The result means nothing if we follow it up with a defeat.“Hopefully with the run of games we’ve got we can kick-start a little run.“We’ve got to make sure we recover properly, don’t dwell on the game.“Like they say, never get too high, never get too low, and come Monday it’s a fresh start and we go again.”McCabe says he always had faith in his side turning things around, but that doing his homework on Montrose worked well for him.He said: “I’m there day in day out with the boys, I know how hard they work, and in terms of performances there have been flashes and bits in the games that I’ve seen, and it’s about being confident.“It’s about getting your chest out and showing everyone what good footballers you are, and I think you saw that.
