For the upcoming second installment, the filmmaker would be both writing the script and directing the film.The “Miami Vice” director is also still in negotiations to finalize a deal for his movie.Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Val Kilmer famously starred in the parent flick with Mann writing, directing and co-producing. “House of Gucci” star Driver would appear in the new movie as a young Neil McCauley, played by Robert De Niro in the original “Heat.” Driver’s name is the only name attached to “Heat 2” at this time, though there has been some chatter about Pacino returning to the sequel and Ana de Armas joining to play Driver’s love interest, Deadline reported.The original “Heat” chronicled the issues facing an LAPD officer, Lt.

Vincent Hanna (Pacino), and his encounter with a professional thief (De Niro).The book version of “Heat 2” was released in August and took the top of the New York Times Best Seller list.Micheal Mann wrote “Heat 2” with co-author Meg Gardiner.

The narrative acts as a prequel to the previous story as well as a sequel and takes place between 1988 and 2000. Mann and Driver are already teaming up for the biographical film “Ferrari,” which is based on the life of Italian car mogul Enzo Ferrari.The “Marriage Story” alum is starring as the titular character and the movie will be released later this year.The plot will follow Ferrari in the summer of 1957 as he prepares for the Mille Miglia race.Patrick Dempsey, Penelope Cruz, Shailene Woodley and Sarah Gadon are also starring in the flick.Christian Bale was first announced to play Ferrari in 2015; however, he dropped out of the project shortly after.The biopic has been a longtime passion project for Mann, who’s worked on it.
