Adam Devine Blames Marvel Cinematic Universe for the Death of Comedies

Adam Devine has noticed that there are less comedies coming out in recent years, and he thinks that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is to blame.

The 39-year-old Pitch Perfect actor opened up about the industry during an appearance on the This Past Week podcast. Read more about Adam Devine’s thoughts on the MCU… While on the podcast, he noted that he thought people “need comedy more than ever.” Despite that, he said that there were only around 7 comedies in theaters last year as opposed to the 45 that were coming out on a regular basis in the past. “My theory: I think Marvel ruined it,” he said. “I feel like superhero movies ruined comedies because you go to the theater, and you expect to watch something that cost $200 million to make.

Comedy movies aren’t that. So you’re like, ‘Why would I spend the same amount of money to go watch a little comedy in the theater if I can spend that and go see something that is worth $200 million?’” He even addressed the use of comedy in the MCU, saying, “They still make those movies kind of funny, like, ‘Oh my god, is that raccoon talking?

This is hilarious!’ Which it is, but it’s not a real comedy.” “There’s still good shows, but movie comedy… it’s hard,” Adam opined.
