'Absolutely brutal' - Gary Neville gives verdict on Marcus Rashford's Manchester United exit

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville believes Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery is the right man to get Marcus Rashford's career back on track.

Rashford finalised his move to Villa Park on Sunday evening, joining the club on loan for the remainder of the season. Villa have agreed to cover at least 75 per cent of his £325,000-a-week salary and that could rise to 90 per cent depending on performance-based bonuses.

Rashford last played for United on December 12. He had been omitted from 12 of 13 matchday squads prior to his loan move. His temporary switch to Villa, which also features the option for the Midlands outfit to sign him permanently in the summer, is the ideal move to get his career back on track, according to Neville, who has described some of United head coach Ruben Amorim's recent comments about the forward as "absolutely brutal". "I have a number of emotions," Neville said, speaking on his Sky Sports podcast. "I have a tinge of sadness thinking of Marcus Rashford as an eight, nine-year-old Manchester United academy player given a big contract a couple of years ago having scored 30 goals and being right at the top of his game on and off the pitch. "Then obviously the deterioration in the last couple of years has been alarming to the point whereby it is an absolute must he has to get out of Manchester United.

I feel sad saying that, and I never thought that a few weeks ago, let alone months ago. "I thought when Ruben Amorim came in we would see not necessarily a resurgence from Rashford but a clean slate; it has got ten times worse under Amorim for Rashford than it was under Erik ten Hag, in the sense that some of the things that have been said by his manager have been absolutely brutal. "You think he
