Hamilton Accies Women boss Gary Doctor says his side showed character to beat Aberdeen 3-1 in their SWPL1 opener on Sunday.Goals from Celtic loanee Olivia Potter and strikers Chloe Muir and Josephine Giard got the campaign off to a flier, ahead of Sunday’s trip to high-spending Hibs at Meadowbank.Doctor said: “It was really good to get a win.
We didn’t win a home game last season, so to break that duck straight away is fantastic.“We’ve had a really challenging pre-season, but things came together.“It was really pleasing to see a lot of stuff that we’ve tried to implement and change coming into fruition against a good team.
It was a big moment for us, because we lost all three games to Aberdeen last season by the odd goal.“It shows there’s a real belief in the squad, with the freshness that we’ve got, and we showed a wee bit of character and resilience.“We scored, then conceded shortly after and last season I don’t think we’d have kicked on and won the game.”Doctor says the next two games against Hibs and Glasgow Women are major tests, but chances for points. He added: “It will be a tough one against Hibs.
For us a performance and being competitive will be good.“They’ve gone almost full-time this season and are signing players from all over Europe.“We’ve got them and Glasgow and I think there are opportunities for us to pick up more points.”Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
