Aberdeen have announced that tonight's Premiership match at home to Motherwell has been called off, after Storm Gerrit battered Scotland.Travel to Pittodrie was made increasingly difficult today with trains cancelled and Motherwell reported just after 3pm that the A90 was completely closed, advising supporters to use the A92 route via Arbroath and Montrose. But Aberdeen chief executive Alan Burrows added an update at 3.48pm, stating that the game is off. Both teams are in the Granite City, but Burrows says they were pushing for the game to be called off, "given the deteriorating travelling conditions."His message read: "Whilst much of Pittodrie has been battered by significant rain and gale force winds, the stadium itself and the pitch have coped admirably well."However, as all major (and most minor) roads became flooded and/or unpassable, or damaged due to fallen trees, and with rail services being cancelled north of Dundee, it was clear it was going to be a very difficult ask for many supporters of both clubs to safely get to Pittodrie."We remained in dialogue with all stakeholders and after putting our case across strongly to the league, it has been agreed between the two clubs, the league and Police Scotland that it is safer to rearrange the game."Aberdeen FC said "significant flooding and damage to most of the major routes in and out of Aberdeen, with rail services all cancelled" were as a result of the storm. An earlier decision to postpone tonight's clash between Rangers and Ross County at Ibrox also fell foul to the weather, when heavy snow and flooding on the A9 made it impossible for the Highland club and their supporters to reach Glasgow.Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onX via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor
