At nearly 1,500 pages, it’s one of the longest novels ever published. And now book adaptation supremo Andrew Davies has turned Vikram Seth’s A Suitable Boy into a TV series.
It’s directed by Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding) and stars actress Tabu – one of Indian cinema’s biggest names – as Saeeda. The story revolves around four families over 18 months, and focuses on Mrs Rupa Mehra’s efforts to marry her daughter Lata off to ‘a suitable boy’.
But the strong-willed student has no intention of being told who to wed. The central role of Lata went to newcomer Tanya Maniktala.
