Struggling cinema chain Cineworld is closing the first of six branches today. The site in Weymouth, Devon, will roll credits today, disappointing film fans in the seaside town.
Cineworld confirmed it would be shuttering six sites in a major update earlier this month and the other five Cineworld sites set for closure are Castleford, Leigh, Middlesbrough, Northampton, and Poole, which will all shut on January 19.
The Middlesbrough and Northampton sites are set to reopen as Odeon branches later in 2025. Cineworld said the closures come as landlords end their contract with the cinema chain.
Cineworld had its major restructuring plans approved in September 2024, after four companies which form part of the UK arm of Cineworld told a High Court they were at risk of collapsing into administration.
