Rocksteady is reportedly working on a new, single-player Batman game as Warner Bros. Games looks to focus on its core franchises.Speaking in a financial call, Warner Bros.
Discovery President and CEO David Zaslav addressed the troubled 12 months the company has faced with the poor performance of titles such as Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and the Super Smash Bros.-style brawler MultiVersus. “We recognise [the games business] is substantially underperforming its potential right now.” said Zaslav, before adding that Warner Bros.
will now be doubling down on just four games: Hogwarts Legacy (a sequel is already in the works), Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, and DC, “in particular Batman.”“We are focusing our development efforts on those core franchises, with proven studios to improve our success ratio,” Zaslav added.The Discovery President and CEO confirmed that Rocksteady is “looking to return to Batman for a single-player game,” but according to a report from Bloomberg, any such title will be years away due to the troubled development of other games.Monolith Productions’ Wonder Woman game is said to be in trouble after reportedly rebooting and switching directors early last year.
It’s already cost more than $100million and is still years away from release, Bloomberg added.Meanwhile, Gotham Knights developer WB Games Montreal pitched a John Constantine game but it was never approved.
