Matt Minton mminton@variety.com “A Complete Unknown,” the musical biopic about Bob Dylan that garnered eight Academy Award nominations, including best picture, and $127 million worldwide at the box office, will begin streaming March 27 on Hulu.
The film takes place in the early ’60s as Dylan, played by “Call Me by Your Name” star Timothée Chalamet, takes on New York City and causes a rift in the musical community after he challenges the lines between folk and electric music.
Edward Norton plays Pete Seeger, who becomes a mentor figure to Dylan, while Monica Barbaro plays Joan Baez, the singer-songwriter with whom Dylan falls in love.
In his positive review for Variety, Owen Gleiberman described the film as an “entrancingly offbeat drama,” claiming that Chalamet “becomes Bob Dylan” when he sings “Song to Woody” to the sick Woody Guthrie (Scoot McNairy).
