Under new proposals, drivers slapped with a parking fine could be faced with an additional £70 debt collection fee. The new code of conduct will give private companies the go ahead to charge an extra "debt recovery fee" on top of standard parking penalties unless drivers pay within 28 days.
The extra charge is likely to be introduced as part of new guidelines for parking operators which has been on the drawing board for more than three years, according to reports.
