Football managers are facing a real headache as Covid wreaks havoc with squads up and down the country. Dundee boss James McPake could barely pull a team together for their trip to Aberdeen but the SPFL rejected the Tayside club’s plea to postpone the game.
That resulted in McPake even putting his 40-year-old assistant Dave Mackay on the Pittodrie bench.While Mackay probably wouldn’t have fancied pulling the boots on again for the first time since his last game five years ago, others have welcome the chance.And that is mainly the younger players who are being handed a chance they might otherwise not have got.Dundee United and St Mirren were both forced to go with kids against both halves of the Old Firm last week.
