There's no escaping soaring grocery bills, as households across the country are grappling with rising prices in supermarkets amidst the cost of living crisis.

The latest research suggests that UK families are now facing a whopping £454 increase to their grocery bills, as rising inflation reaches its highest level since 2008.With rising pressure on families who are trying to stick to a budget, it is understandable why so many are beginning to spend less money at the supermarket.

A report from Kantar found that overall sales dipped by 5.4% in the year to June, attributed to people eating fewer meals around the kitchen table, families adapting to life post-lockdown and a return to offices, schools, and restaurants.Sales at Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Lidl also dipped, with Lidl seeing the softest decrease at just 1.%.

Asda suffered the steepest drop (6.2%), followed by Sainsbury’s (4.8%) and Tesco (5.5%).As grocery bills continue to rise and families facing soaring energy and petrol prices, Belfast Live compared the cost of 20 like-for-like items at Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda to find out which store is the best value for money.The shop included everyday essentials such as milk, cheese, bread and some fruit and veg.To keep each shop fair, the cheapest option available was chosen and store-brand products were also bought where possible.
