10 households appliances adding £147 to your energy bill every year

With energy prices remaining high many are looking for ways to cut costs where possible. But there may be some "vampire appliances" that could be doing just the opposite and costing you up to £147 extra in bills every year.

These appliances are devices that use up electricity even when the power switch is turned off and standby mode is activated.

According to research carried out by comparison site Quotezone, as many as 23 per cent of household electricity use is wasted on this type of appliance.

While it may be a tedious walking around your home making sure appliances are off, the simply task could save you nearly £150 each years, reports the Mirror.Greg Wilson, the founder of Quotezone, explained that keeping tabs on what is on and off in your home is one of the "easiest" ways to keep energy costs down. “It’s an easy win because you don’t even have to make any major changes to your everyday habits to reduce these energy bills – it’s just tricky to work out who the culprits are", he said.
