A huge wildfire which forced 3,000 people to flee their homes was caused by a smoke machine at a gender reveal party, it has emerged.

Communities in California were forced to evacuate as the blaze spread to cover an area of around 8,600 acres. Fire authorities in San Bernardino County have confirmed that the source was a "smoke-generating pyrotechnic device" used at the party, which was held yesterday morning.

As a result, people living in nearby Oak Glen, Yucaipa Ridge, Mountain Home Village and Forest Falls were ordered to evacuate their homes.
