Check out footage of the moment below.The gig took place at the Cheese and Grain venue in Frome last night (August 16) as part of Johnny Marr’s latest run of solo gigs, and featured a number of tracks from across his discography, including solo tracks and classics by The Smiths.Fans at last night’s show, however, were left surprised after the singer-songwriter and guitarist brought out The Cult’s Billy Duffy as a surprise guest for the evening.The on-stage appearance is the latest of the multiple times the two musicians have joined forces, as they both have a long history of playing music together – stemming back to their adolescent years.Meeting in Manchester during their childhood, Duffy was in an early incarnation of The Smiths with Morrissey and had also played guitar with Marr when the latter was just 12 years old.

Death Cult announce UK, US and Ireland tour in celebration of 40th anniversary

Death Cult have announced a UK, US and Ireland tour in honour of the band’s 40th anniversary taking place later this year.The band, consisting of Billy Duffy and Ian Astbury, will be returning to play iconic venues they previously performed in at the start of their career. According to a press release, the shows, titled Death Cult 8323, will focus on Death Cult and their eponymous EPs, and will also “boast a setlist that spans the three phases of the band, from Southern Death Cult, to Death Cult, and The Cult’s first two albums: ‘Dreamtime’ (1984) and ‘Love’ (1985).”Kicking off with a show in Los Angeles at The Theatre at The Ace Hotel on October 23, the band will then head to various cities within the UK including Belfast, Sheffield, Liverpool, Glasgow and more.

The Cult have shared a new single, ‘A Cut Inside’ from their upcoming album ‘Under The Midnight Sun’ which is set for release on October 7 via Black Hill Records. View the album artwork and tracklisting, and hear the new single below.In the distorted guitar track, lead singer Ian Astbury suspiciously points at the community around him as he sings, “No heathens in heaven/ No sweet surrender/ Outsiders forever/ Ghosts of our lives.”Astbury has previously said that walking the grounds of Provinssirock Festival in Finland inspired the subject matter of the upcoming album. “It’s three in the morning, the sun’s up, and there’s all these beautiful people in this halcyon moment,” he said.Astubury continued: “People are laying on the grass, making out, drinking, smoking. There were rows of flowers at the front of the stage from the performances earlier that evening.
