NME, developers on Old School RuneScape have broken down the online multiplayer game’s busiest month since launch – from the birth of dubiously-named community activity Sq’irkin, to the return of its much-hyped Leagues game mode.Last week (November 15), an Old School RuneScape (OSRS) update added the Trailblazer Reloaded League – a temporary game mode that’s separate from the rest of OSRS.In the current League, players start from scratch and can only play within one region in Gielinor. Other areas must be unlocked by completing tasks, while powerful perks and exp bonuses make the game mode something of a power fantasy in comparison to standard OSRS.Just like prior League modes, Trailblazer Reloaded has been hugely popular.

Old School RuneScape players are being treated to a sequel to one of its most beloved quests – Desert Treasure – almost two decades after the original was added into the game.As a Grandmaster quest featuring the mysterious Mahjarrat, Desert Treasure 2 – The Fallen Empire is the “most ambitious” quest that the Old School team has worked on since the release of the RPG in 2013.In this sequel, players travel to four new areas and will be pitted against four new bosses that guard an ancient vault that has the power to “change Gielinor forever” if it is opened. “These four bosses each have their own abilities, mechanics, and strategies,” read the press release, with the assurance that these bosses can be battled again after the ending of The Fallen Empire for extra rewards like the coveted Virtus Armour.The content is live today (July 26) in Old School RuneScape, allowing players to commence their quest as soon as they like and secure the “host of mythical and powerful rewards.”“Desert Treasure 2 will reward players with four new best-in-slot rings to boost strength, ranged skills, magic, and melee, as well as a fully upgraded Ancient Sceptre which gets stronger with every defeated boss,” explained the team.

Jagex is diving into its RuneScape archives to bring back “the rarest item in its 20-year history” – a golden party hat.In a new event that runs from now until January 3, 2022, players will be able to get their hands on a new version of the classic “Partyhat“, an item that was initially only available during a Christmas event way back in 2001. Originally available in red, yellow, green, blue, purple, or white, RuneScape’s “The Golden Party Hat Hunt” quest will allow players to unlock one of the highly-sought cosmetics in a metallic sheen.As the partyhats were originally only available in limited numbers for a short time and have since been discontinued, any player lucky enough to have one can sell them for billions of in-game coins.
