After “Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom” ended the DCEU with a whimper (albeit a successful whimper relative to the DCEU’s other three 2023 releases), it’s time to look ahead to James Gunn and Peter Safran‘s franchise reboot. And the DCU can’t be a middling, clunky, and visually uninspired as the DCEU right? By now, we know John Cena’s “Peacemaker” series is one of the few former DCEU projects going forward under James Gunn’s newly revamped DC Studios. Nearly all other relics of this era, Henry Cavill as Superman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, and Jason Momoa as Aquaman, are essentially canceled and very likely to be eventually rebooted.

Yesterday, Margot Robbie made headlines when she was interviewed by Variety and was asked whether she would reprise her iconic role as DC anti-hero Harley Quinn in the upcoming DC Studios plan, given DC is mostly rebooting and reimagining their film universe. And frankly, her answer was pretty evasive.

Matt Reeves seems to have successfully rebooted the Caped Crusader in his 2022 film, “The Batman.” The popularity of that film, both commercially and critically, has led to the filmmaker working on several spinoffs. But according to James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios, not everything Reeves is working on, in terms of superheroes, exists only within “The Batman” universe.

With the WGA guild strike now resolves, writing and creative development may begin again on countless postponed projects. And eyes will be on James Gunn and Peter Safran‘s new DCU in that regard, considering the sheer breadth of their franchise reboot.

With poor box office numbers so far for Pixar‘s “Elemental” and James Mangold‘s “Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny,” Disney sees itself in the middle of its worst theatrical slump in a long time. And it arguably started back in March with “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania,” which made less than $500 million worldwide and suffered the steepest second-week drop at the domestic box office of any Marvel film.

Earlier this month, “The Flash” and “IT” director Andy Muschietti emerged as the “top choice” of Warner Bros. to helm the new DCU‘s upcoming “Batman: The Brave And The Bold.” Now Variety confirms that Muschietti has indeed landed the project.

Even before the whole Snyder Cut situation, there were plenty of reports floating around that behind-the-scenes drama surrounded the Warner Bros. film, “Justice League,” while it was in production.
