Burial is on the horizon.The teaser for new music came in the form of a post online, where the label shared a 14-second snippet of music – appearing to be a new track from the elusive South London artist.Shared on XL’s Twitter/X account on Monday (January 1), the audio clip came with a decidedly low-res image, showing his trademark “cross” symbol hidden behind the logo for the record label.As for the new music, the forthcoming release appears to centre on his earlier, more rave-focused sound, instead of his more recent ambient work. Burial submitted his soundtrack for Harmony Korine’s new film Baby Invasion via PS5, the director has revealed.During a recent press conference, Variety asked the cult filmmaker how the electronic musician and producer (real name William Emmanuel Bevan) ended up working on his experimental thriller.Korine didn’t disclose many details about the collaboration out of “respect” for Burial. In late May, Hyperdub founder Kode9 and reclusive producer Burial teased a forthcoming collaboration on a London billboard that read “FABRIC ORIGINALS: BURIAL X KODE9.” Today (June 30), as the Quietus reports and a representative of Hyperdub has confirmed to The FADER, the two electronic icons have revealed the project’s title, Infirmary / Unknown Summer; its release date, July 21; and its format, a split EP with each artist contributing a single track. The new project will follow 2018’s FABRICLIVE 100, Kode9 and Burial’s first joint release with fabric Originals, a record label connected to the London nightclub fabric.
