The B6167 Lancashire Hill has been closed in both directions between Great Egerton Street and Belmont Way roundabout following the incident.
GMP are yet to confirm any details but witnesses reported seeing a collision between a motorbike and a car shortly after 6pm.
It is not yet known if anyone has been injured. Pictures from the scene show a red vehicle inside the police cordon which has been badly damaged.
