Nick Vivarelli International CorrespondentBritish actor Daisy Edgar-Jones, best known for her role as Marianne in the Hulu and BBC series “Normal People,” will be feted by the Locarno Film Festival with its Leopard Club Award.The Swiss fest dedicated to indie cinema will celebrate Edgar-Jones on Aug. 5 when her latest film, Olivia Newman’s “Where the Crawdads Sing,” in which she plays the lead, will screen on the 8,000-seat outdoor Piazza Grande venue.On the following day Locarno will also screen Bill Buckhurst’s coming-of-age film “Pond Life” which marked Edgar-Jones’ debut in a theatrically released feature.She also starred opposite Sebastian Stan in the movie “Fresh,” directed by Mimi Cave which premiered at Sundance and was released on Hulu and Disney +.

Michael Winterbottom Set For ‘Promised Land’ With Douglas Booth, Irina Starshenbaum, Harry Melling (EXCLUSIVE)

Nick Vivarelli International CorrespondentBritish director Michael Winterbottom will start shooting his long-gestating “Promised Land,” a thriller set during the leadup to the 1948 partition of Palestine and the subsequent creation of the state of Israel, this fall in Italy.U.K. actors Douglas Booth (“The Dirt,” “That Dirty Black Bag”) and Harry Melling (“The Ballad of Buster Scruggs”) and Russia’s Irina Starshenbaum, who was in Cannes in 2018 with Kirill Serebrennikov’s “Leto,” are attached as the pic’s main cast. Italy’s Vision Distribution, which is headed by veteran sales agent Catia Rossi, is launching pre-sales on “Promised Land” in Cannes.Based on real events, “Promised Land” is a political thriller that unfolds during the British Mandate in 1930s Tel Aviv.

Nick Vivarelli International CorrespondentBritish actor Emilia Fox (“Silent Witness”) is set to star as a disillusioned U.K. spy who becomes a sleuth in Italy in “Signora Volpe,” a detective drama commissioned by AMC Networks’ Acorn TV that will start shooting in Italy in May.The show comprising three 90-minute installments is being produced by ITV Studios-backed production company Route 24, with Italy’s ITV-owned Cattleya providing the Italian production service. “Signora Volpe” is created and written by Rachel Cuperman and Sally Griffiths (“Midsomer Murders) who are also its executive producers.
