Yusuf / Cat Stevens has announced a virtual event called  ‘CatSong Festival’ set to take place next month.Taking place on December 5, the special live YouTube broadcast will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Stevens’ 1970 albums ‘Tea For The Tillerman’ and ‘Mona Bone Jakon’.With over 40 artists on the lineup, the likes of HAIM, Brandon Boyd of Incubus, Jack Johnson, James Morrison, Passenger and many more will perform songs from across Stevens’ discography.“It’s great to see and hear these covers of my songs given new life. There’s no better honour for a songwriter than to have his songs performed by talented musicians with such love and sincerity.

Glastonbury 2023 this afternoon (June 25), Yusuf/Cat Stevens paid tribute to George Harrison with a cover of The Beatles‘ ‘Here Comes The Sun’.During his 21-song set, Stevens also performed a cover of Nina Simone’s ‘Please Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood’ and shouted out his favourite comedian, Ricky Gervais.Before the Beatles cover, Stevens told the Pyramid Stage crowd: “Well, now I’d like to play a tribute to another Beatle.“[He was] a great inspiration of mine and many. Cat Stevens, will take on the coveted Legends Slot at Glastonbury 2023, it has been announced.The first wave of artists for this summer’s festival was revealed this morning (March 3), with Arctic Monkeys and Guns N’ Roses set to join Elton John in headlining the iconic Pyramid Stage.Other acts on the line-up include Lana Del Rey, Lizzo, The War On Drugs, Chvrches, Lil Nas X, Christine And The Queens and Manic Street Preachers.Yusuf / Cat Stevens is also on the poster, and will perform in Glastonbury’s Legend Slot on Sunday, June 25, according to BBC News. It’ll mark the singer-songwriter’s debut appearance at Worthy Farm.The annual performance, often reserved for older and heritage acts, traditionally takes place at around 4pm on the Pyramid.Diana Ross appeared in the slot last June, with the likes of Kylie Minogue, Barry Gibb, Jeff Lynne’s ELO, Lionel Richie and Dolly Parton all having taken on the Legends Slot in recent years.Prior to today’s announcement, it’d been rumoured that either The Spice Girls, Robbie Williams, Roxy Music or Duran Duran were in the running for this year’s Sunday teatime slot.Yusuf / Cat Stevens released a re-imagining of his 1970 studio album ‘Tea For The Tillerman’ back in 2020.

Nostalgia is big business and the record industry loves a good anniversary reissue. Once or twice a decade, why not repackage an old album? Maybe remaster it. Maybe add a big pile of extra tracks no one thought it worth inflicting on the public before. For the 50th anniversary of his ‘Tea For The Tillerman’ album, Yusuf/Cat Stevens has done something different, though. He’s re-recorded the whole album anew, calling it ‘Tea For The Tillerman²’ or just ‘T4TT²’.

Yusuf/Cat Stevens has said a new and re-recorded version of his acclaimed album Tea For The Tillerman will “bring new life” to its songs.

In 1970, Yusuf—then still known as Cat Stevens— released Tea for the Tillerman, a gorgeously melodic collection of songs that looked at the world through a prism of wisdom and spirituality that belied the British artist’s youth.The multi-platinum album, which included the classic “Wild World,” as well as “Where Do the Children Play” and “Father and Son,” catapulted the 22 year old to global stardom and helped define the singer/songwriter era.On Sept. 18, UMe will release Tea for the Tillerman 2, Yusuf/Cat Stevens' reimagining of the 11 songs filtered through 50 years of life experiences.
