Anne Robinson has been announced as the new presenter of Countdown, after Nick Hewer quit last year.The Weakest Link star Anne, 76, will please Nick Hewer, who quit the show late last year after the lockdown made him reconsider his career. Anne will become the first woman to lead the show in its 38 year history, though Rachel Riley runs the letters and numbers board on the show since 2009.

Rachel Riley, 35, is best known for appearing on Countdown alongside Susie Dent and host Nick Hewer. This afternoon the star took to Twitter as she debated the different spellings of bagel with her fans, while sharing an anecdote from a night out with friends.

Susie Dent has been a part of Countdown for nearly 30 years and as such has become known for her knowledge of words in the show's dictionary corner.Tonight she will join the cast of 8 Out of 10 Cats in a Christmas special of the popular crossover series 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.

Rachel Riley's Countdown co-star Nick Hewer, 76, shared a tweet about his barn owl, who died after crashing into his bathroom mirror.The presenter told fans he had placed his dead pet in a freezer as he considered taxidermy at the time.Nick wrote: “RIP my lovely barn owl.“Flew threw the bathroom window and crashed into mirror.

Countdown host Nick Hewer and his sidekick maths whiz Rachel Riley will be back in the studio in weeks.

Nick Hewer, 75 started hosting Countdown in 2012 after taking over the role from Jeff Stelling. Nick is also known as Lord Sugar's advisor on the Apprentice but who is the former Apprentice star's first wife?Nick and his first wife Margo Spindler got married in 1973.However after 12 years together the couple ended up divorcing in 1985.During their marriage, Nick and Margo had two children together, James and Kate.Nick has since been with his long term partner Catherine since 1996.Although while he says Catherine has changed his life, the Countdown host says he won't be getting married anytime soon.Nick told the Mirror: "Don't get me wrong, it has crossed my mind."We will probably get round to it one day when the tax stars are aligned.
