Top Boy season four’s release date has finally been confirmed, alongside a host of new names joining the cast.The Netflix series – which is itself a revival of the Channel 4 show – last streamed nearly three years ago in 2019, and its follow up has been announced for March 18, launching with eight episodes.The news was revealed by stars including Ashley Walters and Kano, who shared a video clip of the poster with a date being put up on the ODEON BFI IMAX in central London.Walters had teased an announcement yesterday (January 30) with an image of part of the poster being put up, accompanied by the word “tomorrow”.A post shared by Ashley Walters /// Asher D (@ashleywalters)Alongside that, Netflix has confirmed that Josephine De La Baume (A Very Secret Service), Howard Charles (Shadow and Bone), Erin Kellyman (The Green Knight) and rap and grime artist NoLay (Natalie Athanasiou) will be joining the cast, while fashion model Adwoa Aboah will make her acting debut on the show.The new season was expected to arrive in 2020, though was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Walters and Kano are set to return, as are regulars Micheal Ward, Little Simz, Jasmine Jobson, Lisa Dwan, Kadeem Ramsay, Saffron Hocking, Jolade Obasola, Hope Ikpoku and Araloylin Oshunremi.The new season will see Dushane (Walters) on top of the world after winning against Jamie (Ward), while his Summerhouse crew is unrivalled. Things are also going well with Shelley (Ajikawo) as he dreams of a future away from the road – though a new problem threatens everything.Sully (Robinson) is trying to find peace after killing friend Dris, and is forced back into the only world he knows when family comes calling.

Top Boy on Twitter.The hit series first aired in 2011 until 2013 on Channel 4, before being resurrected by Netflix for a third series in 2019.Walters, who has played Dushane Hill in the show since its inception, shared a photo on Twitter earlier today (January 30) of what looks to be a new poster for the series being put up in London. The actor’s headshot takes up most of the advert, while the word “before” seems to be written over his face.Beneath him, the word “TOP” is visible, with the rest of the poster not plastered up when the photo was taken. “Tomorrow,” Walters captioned the tweet.

Top Boy and Steve McQueen‘s Small Axe, has joined the cast of Sam Mendes’ new film, Empire Of Light.Plot details for the upcoming movie – which co-stars Oscar winner Olivia Colman – have been kept under wraps, but according to Deadline, the film is a love story that will take place in a scenic old cinema on the South Coast of England in the 1980s.The film will also see 1917 cinematographer Roger Deakins reunite with Mendes for the film.Deadline reports that Ward, who scooped the EE BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2020, won Mendes and the film’s execs over at a recent table read for the role.Ward is currently filming the next series of Top Boy.

EXCLUSIVE: After meeting and auditioning with a number actors, Top Boy breakout Micheal Ward has been set to join Olivia Colman in the Searchlight drama Empire of Light with Sam Mendes directing. The film will mark Mendes first film since his Oscar-winning World War I drama 1917 and he also penned the script and marks his first solo script. The film will be produced by Mendes and Pippa Harris’ Neal Street Productions. Production is expected to star in fall of 2022.

Its first two series were broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK before it was abruptly cancelled.

Small Axe, which depicts the lives of Black British people between 1969 and 1982, and is dedicated to the Black Lives Matter movement. He played Franklyn in the Lovers Rock instalment.Speaking to the Times, Ward was asked if he thought the film and TV industry was doing enough to push for diversity.
