Lawrence Okolie sends message to cruiserweight rival about wanting to fight Jake Paul
Lawrence Okolie has hit out at cruiserweight rival Mairis Briedis for chasing a fight with YouTuber Jake Paul. The WBO champion takes on Poland’s Michal Cieslak in the second defence of his title on Sunday at the O2 in London.Okolie, 29, has been chasing unification fights including against IBF champion Briedis. But the Latvian has been too busy calling out Paul for a money-spinning fight with cringe videos online and even got a tattoo to try to lure the American into a clash.Okolie said: “What you have to look at, just look at Jake Paul’s response? He got mugged off by him, now he’s bought a million followers to try and get profile, each to their own.“He has his own plan and the way he thinks the world is. If I pay too much attention to him then all of a sudden I’m taking my eye off what is in front of me this weekend.“I think it’s bad for him, rather than the whole sport.“I don’t think he has enough power in the sport to besmirch it.
