Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones realised his transgender son was not just going through a ‘phase’ during a school concert when the teen emerged on a stage filled with long-haired teenage girls — dressed like David Bowie.The Dakota rocker praised the ‘courage’ of Colby, 15, who was born a girl called Lolita Bootsy — but said the pair needed therapy to deal with the transition.‘I went to watch a carol service at the school and people are going, “It’s a phase, he’ll grow out of it,”’ recalled the 46-year-old, who has a younger daughter called Misty with wife Jakki.‘I was watching these girls singing with long hair and the little spots and all the stuff they’re doing.

Stereophonics‘ Kelly Jones has spoken about how “proud” he is of the way his family has coped with his daughter transitioning into a boy.Born Lolita Bootsy, the frontman’s 15-year-old came out as gay in 2016 – inspiring the Stereophonics track ‘Fly Like An Eagle’ – before this year transitioning into a boy called Colby.Speaking in a new interview, Jones said that although it was “difficult” to come to terms with at first, everyone has been supportive of his son’s transition.“I’m flabbergasted that, through all this, not one person has bullied Colby or made any sarcastic comments to him,” Jones told the Daily Star.
