EXCLUSIVE: The Wolf of Wall Street and The Sopranos scribe Terence Winter has been set to write the script for Otherwise Illegal Activity, based on the true story of a recently de-classified undercover operation. The film is centered on an American convict recruited from behind bars by the Joint Terrorism Task Force to infiltrate the circle of a prominent community leader suspected of harboring large-scale plans to commit acts of terrorism on U.S. soil.

Ethan Shanfeld MGM is in negotiations to acquire “Combat Control,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal and directed by Sam Hargrave (“Extraction”).Hargrave and Shelby Malone will also serve as associate producers alongside Gyllenhaal and Ryan Cassells as executive producers.The Hideaway Entertainment president Matthew Rhodes, CEO Jonathan Gray and VP Kristy Grisham will produce and co-finance the project. Rhodes, who formerly led Bold Films, worked with Gyllenhaal on 2014’s “Nightcrawler.”“Combat Control” is based on the New York Times bestseller “Alone at Dawn,” a true story about American war veteran John Chapman (to be played by Gyllenhaal), written by Dan Schilling and Lori Chapman Longfritz.

EXCLUSIVE: Since the top of the year, no studio has been more aggressive in the marketplace then MGM and it looks like their close to landed another highly-coveted package. Sources tell Deadline, MGM is in talks to acquire Combat Control, which tells the true story of Medal of Honor recipient John Chapman, with Jake Gyllenhaal on board to play the late war hero.  Sam Hargrave, who has become one of the hotter directors in town after his action pic Extraction broke Netflix records last April, will direct the pic and his long-time collaborator, Shelby Malone will Associate Produce. Gyllenhaal is Executive Producing.
