Boygenius have scored their first UK Number One album with their debut LP ‘The Record’.The trio – comprising Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus – beat off competition from DMA’S new album ‘How Many Dreams?’ to claim the top spot.They have also claimed the top spot on this week’s official UK vinyl albums chart, according to the Official Charts Company.‘The Record’ scored five stars and was described by NME as “the instant classic we were hoping for” and the “indie rock supergroup elevates their songwriting by combining the best parts of their artistry.”The review added: “This debut is a gorgeous testament to what can happen when you allow yourself to fully be seen.

The 15-minute short is directed by Kristen Stewart, best known for her roles in Spencer and Crimes of the Future. The Film essentially stitches together videos for three The Record songs.

Sharon Van Etten and Julien Baker are set to cover Nine Inch Nails and Smashing Pumpkins on a seven-inch single for the comic book series What’s the Furthest Place From Here?Each issue of the series, written by Matthew Rosenberg and illustrated by Tyler Boss, has been soundtracked by a seven-inch, with Van Etten and Baker to appear on the accompanying vinyl for the forthcoming seventh issue, due out September 14.The single will feature a cover of Nine Inch Nails’ ‘Hurt’ by Van Etten, which she previously covered in 2020 for Suicide Prevention Month, and Baker’s rendition of ‘1979’ by Smashing Pumpkins. The song aims to raise awareness of the plight of girls in the country since the Taliban’s re-emergence.The founder and director of Miraculous Love Kids, Lanny Cordola said: “It has been a hellish past six months trying to evacuate and relocate the girls and their families.“Tom Morello’s soul hymn perfectly encapsulates this feeling,” he continued.

Julien Baker has joined Ohio-based rock band The Ophelias on a new song – watch the video for ‘Neil Young On High’ below.The track is the first preview of the band’s new album ‘Crocus’, set for release on September 24 via Joyful Noise.Explaining the origins of the collaboration, The Ophelias’ singer and guitarist Spencer Peppet said: “We met Julien for the first time in 2019 at a show we played in Nashville. She introduced herself (as if we didn’t already know who she was) and I tried to not show how nervous I was!“About half a year into 2020 quarantine I worked up the nerve to ask if she wanted to feature on a song from the album we were working on.
