Emancipation producer Joey McFarland took to Instagram on Sunday to apologize for taking a photo from 1863 of an enslaved man to the Los Angeles premiere of the Apple TV+ film, which marks Will Smith's first major release since infamously slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars.'I wholeheartedly apologize to everyone I have offended by bringing a photograph of Peter to the Emancipation premiere,' McFarland, 50, said in a statement. 'My intent was to honor this remarkable man and to remind the general public that his image not only brought about change in 1863 but still resonates and promotes change today.'McFarland showed off the photo - of the enslaved man whose real name was Gordon, and was called 'Whipped Peter' - during the Will Smith film's debut at the Regency Village Theatre this past Wednesday.
