Tributes pour in as former West Ham and Oxford United star Joey Beauchamp dies aged 50
West Ham star Joey Beauchamp.Beauchamp is an Oxford club legend having made over 350 appearances for the club while also having spells with Swindon Town and Swansea.West Ham had signed winger Beauchamp from Oxford in 1994 for a then club-record £1.2million, though he never played a competitive game for the Hammers.He returned to Oxford after a stint with Swindon, and was also voted United's player of the 1990s.An Oxford United statement read: "The thoughts of everyone at Oxford United are with the family and friends of Joey Beauchamp who has passed away aged 50."It added: "The club will pay fitting tribute to one of its greatest ever players in due course but for now we ask fans to allow Joey’s family some privacy at this incredibly sad time."While former team-mate Ross Weatherstone described Beauchamp as United’s greatest player.He posted: "Honoured to call you a friend & privileged to have graced the same football pitch as you."My thoughts are with all your family & especially your daughters.
