RuPaul's Drag Race UK queen Cherry Valentine has died at the age of 28, their heartbroken family has confirmed.Cherry – real name George Ward – appeared on the second series of the beloved BBC show, which launched its fourth series on Thursday night (September 22).The entertainer's family released a statement which said: "It is with the most heart wrenching and deepest sadness to inform you that our George – Cherry Valentine – has tragically passed away.READ MORE: Inside RuPaul and Michelle Visage's friendship – 'soulmates' to Drag Race co-stars"This will come as a profound shock to most people & we understand there is no easy way for this to be announced."As his family, we are still processing his death and our lives will never be the same."We understand how much he is loved and how many lives he has inspired and touched."All we ask is for your patience and your prayers in this time."We love you Georgie. 30 November 1993 - 18 September 2022.”Cherry competed on the second series of RuPaul's Drag Race UK, which was hit by the Covid pandemic and forced to stop filming midway through.The Darlington queen was the second eliminated after facing off against eventual runner-up Tayce in a Lip Sync For Your Life to Elaine Paige's Memory.During the Covid pandemic, Cherry returned to their day job as a nurse and worked on the frontline within the NHS.They later returned to television with their own documentary, about life as a traveller, titled Cherry Valentine: Gypsy Queen and Proud.Tributes have started to pour in on social media following the news of Cherry's tragic death.One person said: "The Cherry Valentine news is heartbreaking.
