The BBC has apologised for the Princess Diana Panorama interview and paid the late royal's private secretary Patrick Jephson "substantial" damages as a result of how interviewer Martin Bashir obtained it. The British Broadcasting Corporation apologised "unreservedly" to Jephson and has agreed to pay a "substantial sum" in damages as the two parties agreed on a settlement.

An independent investigation into the program, conducted by Lord Dyson, found that the public broadcaster “fell short of the high standards of integrity and transparency which are its hallmark.” The Dyson report also found that Bashir used deceitful methods to gain access to Princess Diana.
