Former darts world champion Bob Anderson once walked on stage with a live horse
darts stars, the walk-on is a key part of proceedings with well-known tunes blasting out at Ally Pally or Circus Tavern to set up the tense affair. As fans slap, rub and hi-five their favourite tungsten throwers, walk-on girls throw sweet shapes from the front of the stage before it's down to business for the quickfire contest. From the current era, darts fans will be used to Michael Van Gerwen's famous Seven Nation Army walk-on or Peter Wright's entrance to Pitbull's Don't Stop The Party. But neither MVG nor Snakewright can compete with Bob Anderson's legendary walk-on at the 1995 World Championship. The three-time World Masters champion made unparalleled ground by introducing a live horse when making his approach to the oche. The Limestone Cowboy is still fondly remembered for his unorthodox walk-on choice, though it's unlikely to be repeated due to updated health and safety regulations."I still get people coming up to me asking if I’m the guy that walked on with the horse," Anderson told sportsgazette.HAVE YOUR SAY! 74-year-old Bob Anderson misses board entirely during World Seniors Darts Championship
Darts legend Bob Anderson missed the board entirely during the World Seniors Darts Championship on Thursday evening.A new competition for 2022, Anderson, 74, kicked off the inaugural tournament against 2015 World Grand Prix winner Robert Thornton. The maiden competition sees former tungsten throwers battle it out to see who still reigns supreme in a four-day single-elimination tournament at Circus Tavern.Rules stipulate all competitors must be over the age of 50, though current PDC Tour Card holders are ineligible to participate - ruling out darts stars Peter Wright, Gary Anderson, Raymond van Barneveld and Glen Durrant.Throwing for a prize pot of £30,000, the championship will come to its dramatic climax on Sunday with Phil "The Power" Taylor the bookies favourite to take home the crown. And kicking off the tournament on Thursday evening was three-time BDO World Masters champion Bob Anderson who was pitted against Robert "The Thorn" Thornton.Though the match didn't get off to the greatest start as "The Limestone Cowboy" missed the board completely midway through the opening leg.Trailing 282-36, Anderson hit a single one and a single 20 before dropping down the board to aim for treble 19.But the 74-year-old got it all wrong, missing the board entirely as the commentary team quoted "Little bit of early nerves for Bob."HAVE YOUR SAY!
