Naomi Osaka is making yet another powerful statement. The 22-year-old tennis pro wore a mask that had “George Floyd” written across it as she arrived at her quarter-finals match at the 2020 U.S.
Open on Tuesday (September 8) at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City. George was killed back on May 25 after a white police officer in Minneapolis knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes.
Since his death, there have been peaceful protests all of the country fight against racial injustice and police brutality. Naomi has worn different masks bearing different names throughout the tennis tournament, and says she has one for all seven rounds if she continues to win.
