Initially doctors believed Marcel was showing signs of coronavirus and he was tested for the virus as routine, before it was later discovered he has diabetes.
Marcel had fallen unwell because his body went into Diabetic Ketoacidosis – a condition where the body’s ketone levels (a chemical produced by the liver) get too high and turn blood acidic. ‘I was throwing up, felt light headed, I lost weight, my face was sunken and you could see my bones,’ Marcel told OK!
