Manchester United were close to making a £30million move for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly earlier in the summer prior to signing Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.The Red Devils had prioritised bringing in a new central-defender to partner Harry Maguire in the transfer window with reports at the time claiming Koulibaly was top of their wish-list.United eventually ended up signing French World Cup winner Varane for a fee of £41million, ten years after initially being linked with the 28-year-old.But new reports in Italy have emerged confirming that the Old Trafford club had indeed hoped to close in on the 30-year-old Senegalese international first.Corriere Dello Sport journalist Antonio Giordano revealed United’s £30million offer would not.
