A man has been jailed after throwing roof tiles at police officers during a rooftop standoff in Manchester city centre. Thomas Rowe, 28, had been attempting to flee from police after he was spotted travelling in a stolen car on the M60.

Manchester Crown Court heard how Rowe climbed on to the top of a building on Butler Street, in New Islington, before launching roof tiles at officers below.

A number of roads were closed off and a negotiator had to be called in during the 15-minute standoff, before Rowe surrendered himself.

The court heard that shortly after 11.40pm on January 30, 2020, police in an unmarked police car saw a stolen white Ford Fiesta travelling along the M60.
