Jamelia has called on white people to do more in the battle against racism in Britain. The 39-year-old hitmaker has said that the “ignorance and indifference of white people” has allowed racism to develop and grow in the United Kingdom.

The musician explained during an interview on BBC News on Tuesday that “covert racism” is "woven into the fabric of society" and asked for white people to help dismantle the systems in place.

The award-winning singer said: “As a black person who lives in the UK, I can tell you that we have a serious issue that goes far beyond the overt." Jamelia continued: “It’s the covert racism that is so damaging and insidious, because it’s literally woven into the fabric of society.
