Eric Church cancels upcoming concert for 'most selfish' reason
Eric Church has canceled an upcoming Texas concert this weekend so that he and his family can watch a college basketball game instead. The country singer admits that his decision to choose hoops over the concert is the "most selfish thing" he's ever done in his career. In a message to his fan club, known as the "Church Choir," Eric explains why he's eschewing the San Antonio stage on Saturday, choosing instead to head to the Final Four in New Orleans to watch his beloved North Carolina Tar Heels take on their bitter rival, Duke, in the NCAA Tournament. In the long-storied rivalry between the teams, this is the first time they've ever met in the tournament."As a lifelong Carolina basketball fan, I've watched Carolina and Duke battle over the years," Church said.
"But to have them matchup in the Final Four for the first time in the history of the NCAA Tournament is any sports enthusiast's dream."Knowing the decision would be unpopular, he added, "This is also the most selfish thing I've ever asked the Choir to do: to give up your Saturday night plans with us so that I can have this moment with my family and sports community. However, it's that same type of passion felt by the people who fill the seats at our concerts that makes us want to be part of a crowd at a game of this significance."Over the years, Eric has often been seen in the crowd and on the sidelines of North Carolina games.
