Coronavirus infection rates plunged across England before the today's announcement on which areas would be placed into tough new restrictions Newly released figures showed that 283 out of England's 315 local areas saw a fall in case rates in the past week.

Earlier today, the government announced that the vast majority of Brits faced some form of Covid restrictions once the national lockdown ends at midnight on December 2.
