Comedian Dane Baptiste says he ‘appreciates’ Keith Lemon’s apology for using blackface on his famous sketch show Bo’ Selecta, and believes the comic ‘didn’t intend’ to be racist. As the Black Lives Matter protests unfolded across the country last week, Celebrity Juice star Keith posted a video in which he apologised for the way he portrayed black celebrities on Bo’ Selecta, with Craig David, Michael Jackson and Trisha Goddard among those he impersonated.
It was an unexpected move as Bo’ Selecta hasn’t been on screens for over 10 years, but Keith – real name Leigh Francis – explained that the current fight against racism made him realise how offensive the sketches were to the black community.
