The UK is set to be scorched with sunshine today on the hottest day of the year so far. The mercury is set to hit 21C in the south east, with highs of between 17C and 18C in Scotland, Wales and the north of England.
It’s going to be dry with some breeze in central and eastern parts of the country, with the weather becoming warmer in the afternoon.
But despite the blue skies and balmy temperatures, Brits are under strict instructions to stay indoors to slow the spread of coronavirus.
Officials have been stressing that the blazing sunshine is not a valid reason to head to parks and beaches, and ahead of the weekend, Health Secretary Matt Hancock told the nation that lockdown rules are an instruction and not a request.
