Taylor Sheridan’s popular Paramount “Yellowstone” series, the most popular show on cable television, is at a strange crossroads it may not want to acknowledge yet. Having just earned its first major awards nod in season four in 2021—a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nomination for ensemble cast—this minor but milestone acknowledgment speaks to where the Western family drama is at.

Perhaps sensing that the movie release slate in November would overwhelm many of us, television has slowed down (a touch) with most of the month, including returns of TV favorites. While shows like the much debated and buzzed about “The Crown” will see dominance in the discourse, there are also shows such as “Mythic Quest,” which has been overshadowed by some of its more audience-friendly streaming peers (like “Ted Lasso”) and “Gangs of London” which created a small but loyal following in its first season.  While “Andor” ends this month, Disney+ has a new, nostalgia-filled series to take its place with the premiere of “Willow,” a sequel to the 1988 original film.

And “1923” already has star power on its casting list: Harrison Ford and Hellen Mirren lead the prequel’s ensemble as Jacob and Cara Dutton, the couple leading this earlier rendition of the Yellowstone ranch.

Josh Lucas and Jacki Weaver are among ’s many recurring cast members being brought back for season 5, Paramount Network announced on Friday. Lucas will reprise his role as a young version of the widowed ranch patriarch, John Dutton (Kevin Costner), while Weaver will return as Market Equities CEO Caroline Warner after first being introduced in season 4. Additionally, Kylie Rogers and Kyle Red Silverstein will be back as young Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and young Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), presumably meaning the series will continue to explore their on-and-off again dynamic growing up. New cast members for season 5 include Kai Caster (), country singer Lainey Wilson, Lilli Kay () and ’s Dawn Olivieri, who will go from playing Claire Dutton in that prequel series to playing a corporate shark named Sarah Atwood in the current timeline. Caster, meanwhile, has been added as a young cowboy named Rowdy, with Wilson set to play a musician named Abby and Kay joining as Clara Brewer, a new assistant for one of the Duttons. Additionally, the network confirmed that fan-favorites Moses Brings Plenty (Mo) and Wendy Moniz (Gov. Lynelle Perry) have been upped to series regulars.

Screenwriter turned director Taylor Sheridan (“Wind River“) is quickly positioning himself as one of television’s most prolific creators.
