That album was one of the last things Phife worked on prior to his passing and is an incredible final statement, but he was also putting in time in the studio as he recorded a new solo album.

A Tribe Called Quest have shared details of a new posthumous album from late band member Phife Dawg.The record, called ‘Forever’, arrives on March 22 – six years to the day that Phife passed away aged 45.The founder member of the pioneering hip-hop group, real name Malik Taylor, died in 2016 from diabetes complications, following his involvement in A Tribe Called Quest’s sixth and final album, ‘We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service’. He had battled ill health for decades, having been diagnosed with diabetes in 1990.The new album will see performances from a range of artists including Q-Tip, Busta Rhymes, De La Soul’s Maseo and Pos, among others.The forthcoming collection has been completed using notes that Phife left behind, which include details of how he envisaged the album sounding.Tweeting about the album yesterday (March 15), A Tribe Called Quest wrote: “This has been a long time coming.

The estate of Phife Dawg has shared the tracklist and cover art for the rapper's upcoming posthumous project Forever. First announced in 2020 by the surviving members of his pioneering hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest, Forever was first scheduled to drop in 2021 before receiving a new release date of March 22, 2022, the sixth anniversary of Phife's passing.

A Tribe Called Quest rapper that also features Redman and Illa J.‘French Kiss Trois’ follows on from Phife’s ‘French Kiss Deux’, which was released earlier this year and also featured Illa J. It comes after Redman heard the original version in May and reached out, wanting to add his own verse.Given the track’s nod to the city of Montreal, ‘French Kiss Trois’ arrives alongside a fitting video directed by Redman himself along with Tony Reames and Konee Rock, with Phife’s longtime friend Dion “Roots” Liverpool executive producing.The clip features both Red and Illa J along with Phife Dawg’s widow Deisha Taylor.
