Swimmer killed in suspected shark attack as kayakers raced to save the woman
shark attack believed to have been unprovoked. The woman was swimming off the coast Maine, New England where she was found injured.According to Maine Marine Patrol, a witness saw the swimmer taking a dip off the shore of Bailey Island.It has been reported two kayakers came to help her back to shore.An ambulance also arrived at the scene to provide further assistance, according to a spokeswoman for the US Coast Guard.Authorities are yet to identify the woman or confirm the incident as an official shark attack.Shark attacks are incredibly rare in Maine, with the only unprovoked shark attack being recorded in 2010.Scott MacNichol was the first and only victim of an attack – the diver battled off a porbeagle with his underwater camera.
