Truth of Netflix's 'darkest show yet' has kidnap and girls tortured with dumbbells
Netflix has left viewers horrified – and it's based on a chilling true-crime case. The 2015 movie Cleveland Abduction is focuses on the grim story of the Ariel Castro kidnappings which took place in the early 2000s in Cleveland, Ohio.Castro kidnapped three women — Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus — by offering them a ride and driving them to his home at 2207 Seymour Avenue before luring them inside. What followed was approximately 10 years of abuse and torture before the women were finally able to escape.Knight was the first of three victims to be imprisoned, disappearing on 23 August 2002 after leaving a cousin’s house. On the day of her disappearance, she was scheduled to appear in court for a child custody case involving her son Joey.Following Knight's rescue, police admitted that they had spent few resources investigating her disappearance. This is because authorities suspected she ran away voluntarily because she was upset over losing custody of her son.Amanda Marie Berry vanished on April 21, 2003, the day before she turned seventeen.
