Legendary Nottingham folk hero Robin Hood 'actually from Yorkshire', historian claims
To stay up to date with all the latest news, make sure you sign up to one of our newsletters here.There are now calls for a statue depicting Robin as a young boy to be built in the village.Legend has stated the leader of the Merry Men originated from Sherwood Forest – stomping ground of his arch-enemy the Sheriff of Nottingham.Dr David Clarke from Sheffield Hallam University, who co-authored the Reclaiming Robin Hood book, said: “Loxley, in Hallamshire, was identified as Robin’s birthplace in two historical sources that date from the early 17th century.”Other Yorkshire historians say the earliest stories put Robin’s origins firmly in Barnsdale, on the border between South and West Yorkshire near Doncaster.
